Agile and collaborative: DevOps transformation for optimal IT processes

In recent months, C4 Energy has supported the DevOps transformation of a leading energy supplier and played a key role in optimizing development and operational processes. We developed a structured “happy path” for the subsidiary with around 1,300 employees, which defined clear process flows for smooth collaboration between the teams. The aim was not only to achieve technical improvements, but also to promote the introduction of an agile, cross-team working culture. The focus was on both technical implementation and sustainable change to the corporate culture.

Challenge

The starting point of the project was a basic but not very detailed concept for the DevOps transformation. Initial technologies and tools were already in place, but they were inadequately configured and not optimally integrated.

One of the biggest challenges of the project was to understand and analyze the company’s complex internal structures. It was crucial to consider the specific requirements and working methods of the various teams to ensure that the new processes could be integrated well not only in theory but also in practice.

Solution

C4 Energy developed a “happy path” that defined the ideal sequence of processes. This approach ensured smooth collaboration between the development and operations teams. In parallel, comprehensive documentation was created to guide the teams.

This customization required a high degree of flexibility and a deep understanding of internal processes to ensure that the transformation to DevOps could be easily embedded into the existing structures.

The key to the solution lay in constant and transparent communication. Regular coordination and an open exchange between the various teams made it possible to identify potential stumbling blocks at an early stage and develop flexible solutions together.

Intensive dialog was also maintained within the teams to ensure that all those involved fully understood the new processes and procedures and were able to implement them effectively.

Technical & economic benefits

The DevOps transformation was seamless thanks to C4 Energy’s structured approach.

By optimizing the processes and making targeted use of the advanced tools, the development processes were significantly streamlined.

Technical hurdles that previously caused delays were eliminated and collaboration between the teams ran more smoothly. At the same time, the teams benefited from a clear structure of technical requirements, which further increased productivity.

Overall, this combination of technical adjustments and functional optimization enabled the development teams to work faster and in a more targeted manner, allowing projects to be implemented more efficiently and with higher quality.
